tania, you use a great contrast of shape & form above and below the datum, although you're words are difficult to express visualy, i think encoperating more expressive stairs could help to convey more meaning.
visually, you have taken alot of consideration into the projection of a 2-dimensional section drawing into 3-dimensions which will give you a more elaborate final model.
keep it up! and make some crazy, exprssive stairs!
